The First Light
Frankie
Pronouns: She/her
Trigger Warning: Mentions overcoming trauma
This artwork was created to represent my relationship with post traumatic growth, which has, in particular, lead to more self understanding and acceptance with my gender and sexual identity over the past months.
I wanted to capture the moment when you realise you can make it and see the light, even if you repeat behaviours and take steps backwards, you know what is possible in yourself and nothing can remove the hope that comes from that.
I am asexual. I have always known I am interested in men and women or at least that for me gender does not make a difference to being attracted to someone. But the past year I have been coming to terms with and accepting my asexuality and both the challenges and relief that comes with this acceptance.
I have come to find greater clarity about my identity and feelings and have overcome many obstacles caused by trauma and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Though recent counselling has supported these changes tremendously, creating this artwork has also helped me to process a lot of that healing and trauma, and reflect on how much I have grown through it all.
This is an A3 Collage made mostly from Aldi magazines with a little oil paint.
