"Trans4mation"
Terry Gregoraschuk
Throughout history visual artists have been inspired to document and capture the essence of social changes and events. With the ever changing evolution of mankind, we have progressed and evolved into a state of transition that we now have the ability to change our gender if a person so desires. The general public on the whole, whether it is their personal opinion or based on religious beliefs, are afraid of someone being different from them or what they believe the world perceives as what a normal person should be.
Inspired by a family member’s announcement as being transgender I have been motivated to start a series of paintings, drawings, photographic collages along with sculptural pieces entitled “Trans4mation,” that portrays the trials and tribulations of gender identity and transformation.
"Emergence" (Photo Collage, 2020) : "My inner male identity is finally emerging from my female born body."
"Rebirth" (Mixed Media on Canvas, 2018) : "Although I was born female, my true inner male identity is starting to emerge."
"Metamorphosis" (Mixed Media on Illustration Board, 2016) : "Similar to a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, I have been cocooned too long as a male trapped inside a female body and I'm finally starting to transform into my true male identity."
"The Cross That I Bear" (Mixed Media on Birch Panel, 2016) : "I am a male that was born into a female body. I wrap my breast to hide my female form and I hide my face in fear of being scrutinized by family, friends or the public. My body is shattered by the stress of daily scrutiny but I continue on. This is the cross that I bear for my personal happiness."
"The Stag Within" (Watercolor on Arches 140 lb. W/C paper , 2016) : I am a male born into a female body who is finally starting to emerge identities. I wrap my breasts to hide my female form. I hide my face in fear of being scrutinized."
