I am a transgender woman of color living in Saudi Arabia since 2008. As an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), I have always dreamt to document and encapsulate my memories way back home to connect with my new refuge, reconciling both my longing and my belonging. The short narratives of my diasporic life in the Middle East are just a glimpse in my trans/position as a trans woman in a conservative Islamic country hostile to LGBTQIA+ rights. And I firmly believe that being here in a patriarchal space with no recognized rights, where I could not bare my identity is both a stand and an uncertainty. This is not only a form of resilience but also an anchor to a silent struggle and protest.
Transfinity Testament is based on "Transfinity Diaries" an autobiographical work-in-progress by two-time Philippine National Book Award-winning and Saudi-based immigrant worker Stefani J Alvarez. An original texts intertwined in audio-visual as in most of Alvarez’s body of work, she writes not only from the voices of immigrant worker experience but also from a lens of a transgender Filipino exploited for her labor in a conservative, patriarchal Arab society. This performance art video was entirely shot in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, a city in the Eastern region of the Kingdom considered a resort town with its southern suburbs and eastern coast facing the Persian Gulf.
